G The cathedral in Cologne looks like a spaceship D G like the hand of God falling from the sky C G A thousand stone-carved saints hang like icicles A D but icicles don't take a thousand years to die G And everyone who's ever worked on this cathedral D G or even spent a moment walking by C G Everyone of us is swept away like breadcrumbs A D C G What comfort does it bring, soaring towers left behind? G There's a fiberglass castle in Wisconsin D G where kids race go-karts around a moat C G once we went up there in December A D when every waterslide and fudgeshop was closed G Hoping to feel love under the icicles D G all we did was drink in an empty bar C G but stumbling drunk we crawled back to our motel room A D C G and I fell against you and felt your beating heart G Snow was slowly falling on the ice machine D G and the moon shone hazy through the pines C G but there were lounge chairs thrown into the empty pool A D and a dog chained to a tree barking at the sky
