Waiting On The Day

Written by John Mayer

D (drop high E to open string where appropriate)
Waiting on the day/
C D
When my thoughts are my own/
C D
When this house is my home/
                       A
And planes are leaving/
Bm D G
Will you be there for me baby?/
Bm D G
Will you love me all the way/
Bm D
When you take my side/
G
In every little fire fight/
Bm D G
When you hang your things and stay/
D
I'm waiting on the day/
C D
When my life on the run/
C D
Reaches out in the sun/
A
Shows my age/
D
I'm waiting on the day/
C D
When that voice comes to say/
C
It's not wrong what you did/
A
For just a kid/
Bm D G
Will you be there for me baby?/
Bm D G
Will you love me all the way?/
Bm D G
When you take my side,/ In every little fire fight/
Bm D G
When you hang your things and stay?/
D
I'm waiting on the day/

Instrumental

D
Waiting on the day/
C D
When these words are in stone/
C D
When the kids are all grown/
A Bm D G
And we go dancing/ Oh can you do it baby?/
Bm D G
Can you love me all the way?/
Bm D G
Will you tie me tight/ In little strands of paradise/
Bm D G
Will you walk with me before the morning fades?/

D (See below)
I'm waiting on the day

For the outro of the studio version you essentially play improve on a D chord and
alternate between three bass notes (first being Open D, Second being 3nd fret of
Open A and third being 2nd fret of Open A). Play around with that and tweak it to
whichever way suits you. Open for suggestions @ [email protected] (m us
the ...) - I've purposefully "dumbed down" the song so that beginners etc would be
able to give it a crack.

Cheers,
Ben
