This is the lesson ive been talking about for a while. This is just learning to use the tom toms and floor tom, and moving your body around fast enough to hit them. This, for the people that started my lessons from part 1, should be a milestone for you since here you will take a big step and learn more tab symbols and will get to use the whole drumset. So here it is PART VII around the drumset _____________________________________________________________________________________ Now like i said, you will learn more symbols, so ill go over all of them H-Hi-hat o-hit cymbal or hi-hat S-Snare O-hit hi-hat open B-Bass x-hit drum C-Cymbal X-hit drum harder (accented) ^-rim shot v-rim knock And heres what you need to know (the * are ones you need to know now) t-small tom* f-flam T-medium tom* O-hit cymbal hard (or hi-hat open) F or FT-Floor Tom* o-tap cymbal (or hit hi-hat) CC-Crash cymbal (Loud normal sized one. Most commonly used.) RC-Ride Cymbal (usually biggest one with high pitched ringing) SC-Splash Cymbal (8-12 inches and quickly fades away when you hit it) If you just see a C in tabs, its more likely the Crash Cymbal _____________________________________________________________________________________ Now this is just like a drumroll or the pattern of one (r l r l r l)but isnt as fast. Your just moving around the drums as you do it. t|xxxx------------ T|----xxxx-------- If you have one tom tom, just ignore the small one F|--------xxxx---- (t). If you have three, add one in. S|------------xxxx See how this works? You should not just do this once like i have there, but do it over and over again. I practice this about 1-2 minutes for each of these before playing for a while (but i dont practice every one here) The Ls or Rs underneath the tabs are what hand you should start with. NOTE: the capital letters are the hand you hit the drum with at the beginning of another drum being hit. (since before the capitals meant use that foot to press a pedal) t|xxxx-------------------- T|--------xxxx------------ F|----------------xxxx---- S|----xxxx----xxxx----xxxx RlrlRlrlRlrlRlrlRlrlRlrl You should understand how this works. I just have to say, do each one for at least a minute and dont go too slow. remember the hand to hand 16th notes?, do these as fast as those. This is the Clockwise flow t|----xx---- T|------xx-- F|x-------xx S|-xxx------ RLrlRlRlRl t|------xxxx------ T|----------xxxx-- F|x-------------xx S|-xxxxx---------- RLrlrlRlrlRlrlRl t|--------xxxxxx-------- T|--------------xxxxxx-- F|x-------------------xx S|-xxxxxxx-------------- RLrlrlrlRlrlrlRlrlrlRl t|------------------ T|------------------ F|---xxx---xxx---xxx S|xxx---xxx---xxx--- LrlRlrLrlRlrLrlRlr t|------xxxxxx---------- T|----------------xxxxxx F|------------xxxx------ S|xxxxxx---------------- RlrlrlRlrlrlRlrLrlrlrl This next one is a very popular one, but probably the hardest out of them all t|------xxxxxx----------------------- T|-----------------------------xxxxxx F|----------------xxxxxxx------------ S|xxxxxx------xxxx-------xxxxxx------ RlrlrlRlrlrlRlrlRlrlrlrLrlrlrLrlrlr And heres the last one. This one, when people go to hit the floor tom or tom tom, they use the wrong hand to make it easier, so ill type out what hand you should be using on each drum. t|---x--------x----- T|------x--------x-- F|x--------x-------- S|-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx RLrLRlRLrLRlRLrRLr Hopefully that helped. I would recommend going over this one more time before going to the next lesson, which involves moving around the drumset (but hitting what ever you want) Rate this on how much it helped NOTE: since most these end with the same hand they started with, then just change the order next time. (EX. some look like this RlrlRlrlRlrlRlr but when your playing, the second time you should play it like this LrlrLrlrLrlrLrl so the next time you play you still have the rlrl pattern going.)
