Simple way for beginners to play that cool rock beat you hear in so many songs:

if you practice it you?ll soon be playing it without even thinking about it!

If you want to repeat the beat over and over, you can add another 16th note on the snare drum:

  |1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + |

I don?t personally like it this way, but you can add another bass drum like this:

And you can make so many groovy variations on it by opening the hats on some beats and pulling them close 
on the next quaver eg:

and once you?ve learnt that there?s tons of stuff you can change, keeping the same idea;
